THE MOUSETRAP 70TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR REVIEW

Last Night (6/2/23) I had the pleasure of being invited to attend the Press Night of The 70th Anniversary Tour of ‘The Mousetrap’ at the lovely Grand Opera House, York. The evening was great with a nice selection of Merchandise available.

The Show itself was wonderful. From the opening of the show we were introduced to the lavish set of the newly established ‘Monkswell Manor Guest House’ which was something to behold in itself. The finishing touches, such as snow falling outside the window, fully immersed the audience into the performance.

This shocking, exciting, roller-coaster of a ‘Whodunnit?’ written by the Queen of Crime Fiction, Agatha Christie, left the audience gasping, laughing and crying. Which is a true sign of genius writing and of course - an amazing performance by the cast of performers.

Joelle Dyson played a wonderful Mrs Ralston, with both strength and vulnerability and made her a character the audience truly loved and related with as she was the first that we met. Mr Ralston, her stern yet comedic husband played by Laurence Pears, finished the couple of newly starting guest house owners off brilliantly. Elliot Clay magnificently played the excitable and eccentric character of Christopher Wren - Clay’s was truly a standout performance.

Gwyneth Strong took on the role of Mrs Boyle, another large and interesting character within the guest house. She brought a great element of comedy to the character and the reactions from the other guests within the manor left the audience in stitches.

Nicholas Maude, covering the role of Major Metcalfe, played a truly lovable character and brought a few moments of comedy to the character. Essie Barrow brought an energetic and intelligent character of Miss Casewell to the stage and Kieran Brown made the audience giggle with the interesting character of Mr Paraviccini.

Finally Joseph Reed played a wonderful Detective Sgt. Trotter - finishing off a cast of magnificently written and performed characters.

Overall, ‘The Mousetrap’ was a great night of fun, and mystery. The production is now on its 70th Anniversary Tour and can still also be caught in London’s West End. Tour information is available by clicking here. I’d recommend seeing it when you can to find out just exactly… whodunnit!
