Shirley Valentine, starring Sheridan Smith - Review

I was lucky enough to see Sheridan Smith starring in Shirley Valentine at the Duke of York’s Theatre in the West End.

Shirley Valentine, by Willy Russell is a one woman play about a woman, trapped in her domestic lifestyle, who ends up going on a women’s trip to Greece without her husband.

Sheridan Smith takes on the role of Shirley Valentine in this star run until the 3rd June. Smith is a master of her craft and holds the audience in the palm of her hand throughout the performance. Sheridan presents the moments of emotion and comedy with such ease giving fantastic elements of character within the play and this is reflected in the reaction given by the audience. For a one-woman play, the performer needs to have charisma, and a huge stage presence, both assets that Sheridan Smith has without a doubt.

This is a must-see for fans of theatre and fans of Sheridan Smith alike and I suggest that if you get the chance to see this heartfelt and exciting performance then you should absolutely do so.
