Pretty Woman Stockton Globe (Review)

We had a wonderful night last night at the press night of ‘Pretty Woman: the Musical” at the Stockton Globe. Thank you to all of the Globe staff including Rebecca, Claudette and Jo for such a warm welcome and our little goodie bags and gorgeous food!

Pretty Woman the musical is everything you would expect and more. The piece brings masses of nostalgia with a fabulous new score, choreography and beautifully designed sets.

If you have seen the original 1990 film then you know exactly how much heart and warmth the story has, but putting the film on the stage only makes it better!

Amber Davies plays leading lady ‘Vivian Ward’ with outstanding vocals and impeccable comedic timing. Davies is the perfect choice for this role and she proved this countless times throughout the performance. Each moment of her character was well executed and fantastic to watch.

Business man, ‘Edward Lewis’ was played wonderfully by Oliver Saville who brought a great deal of charm and charisma to the role. The pairing have such incredible chemistry that no moment felt forced and they were very entertaining to watch.

Natalie Paris plays Vivian’s best friend ‘Kit De Luca’ serving the most phenomenal vocals and hilarious character. After seeing Natalie playing ‘Jane Seymour’ in ‘SIX’ a couple of years ago it was good to see her in such a different role showing both her immense talent and also her versatility! Definitely another standout role!

Happy Man/Mr Thompson, during the Stockton Globe run, is being played by Curtis Patrick. Curtis was truly marvellous, giving a masterful performance of two very different characters. Every second of his stage time brought a huge grin to my face and I am sure plenty of others among the audience too. He was definitely a fan favourite!

These performances were backed by an immensely talented ensemble featuring only the best - playing a plethora of different characters throughout the story, executing the choreography beautifully with slick timing and precision.

This show is not for everyone. But if you are a fan of a good hearty piece of Musical Theatre, or of course the movie ‘Pretty Woman’ this is definitely for you.

This is a nostalgic, exciting musical with a toe-tapping score and fantastic cast - need i say more?
