Last Tuesday (17th August), We were lucky enough to catch ‘Jersey Boys’ at their Press/Gala Night in London’s glittering West End.
Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons from the streets of New Jersey to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! It’s a show that’ll leave you “Beggin’” for more, and it's just too good to be true!
First of all, this was my first time back in a full capacity theatre in this post-covid world, so to feel that buzz of an audience truly was something special!
As soon as the band began playing the first song “Ces Soirees-La” the audience were clapping along and loving the music we all know and love by the incredible Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.
The next thing I feel needs to be addressed is Ben Joyce! Ben’s voice is absolutely out of this world! - From the moment he stepped onstage I was in awe of his vocal talent! This is Ben’s West End Debut, and he is graduating from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts this summer! After singing “Can’t Take My Eyes off of You”, Ben received a standing ovation from the audience, which I am sure will be a moment he will remember forever. I am certain that Ben will go on to perform many Incredible roles throughout his career, as his talent is breathtaking and he plays Frankie Valli so beautifully!
The rest of the Four Seasons were played by Adam Bailey (Bob Gaudio), Benjamin Yates (Tommy DeVito) and Karl James Wilson (Nick Massi), each and every one of them bringing comedy, energy and stunning vocals. Benjamin’s Tommy is the first of the four we meet, and he immediately had the audience won over with his charm. Adam’s wonderful singing voice brings Bob’s songs to life and Karl had the audience in hysterics with some of Nick Massi’s one liners!
The whole company made up of the four boys as well as Ben Irish, who was hilarious as the wonderful Bob Crewe, Mark Isherwood, Koko Basigara, Melanie Bright, Carl Douglas, Matteo Johnson, Jacob McIntosh, Helen Ternent and Swings: Andy Smith, Huon Mackley, Jack Campbell and Elliot Allinson were all completely outstanding. This company withholds so much talent and power, I was completely blown away by every single person on that stage!
However, It is not just those onstage that make this production the amazing show that it is! All of the crew offstage, and all those involved in costume, set, and lighting all deserve just as much love, because they are who helped the performers bring the story to life by setting the stage, and transporting us to New Jersey all the way from the Trafalgar Theatre.
Jersey Boys is the Perfect Night out. You know the music, you may even know the story, so get yourself down to the Trafalgar Theatre in London’s West End or On Tour, and see ‘Jersey Boys’ if you can! The tickets are affordable and there is not a bad seat in the house! Tickets and more information can be found on the Jersey Boys website: https://jerseyboysmusical.co.uk/#main-content
Overall an Outstanding night of entertainment for all!
