Yesterday I had the honour of being invited to review ‘Hungry’ at Paines Plough’s roundabout in the heart of the Edinburgh Fringe.
This unique new play is sure to crack you up and leave you wanting more. Incredible writing by Chris Bush brings a fast-paced, engaging insight into the relationship of two women centred around the class divide which leaves you with plenty of food for thought. The comedy aspects had the audience in hysterics whilst tackling issues of control and imbalance in their love life.
Eleanor Sutton played Lori, a chef who wants to educate Bex on the finer things in life. Sutton’s brilliantly strong characterisation aided her in giving an enthusiastic performance which captured the eye of the audience.
Melissa Lowe took on the role of Bex, providing a larger than life character and impeccable comedic timing. Lowe also expertly conveyed raw emotion during her character’s monologue towards the end of the play which left me with a tear in my eye!
Lighting and Set were simple, consisting of two kitchen trolleys with lighting changing colour to help differentiate scenes.
Overall this is a must-see if you are up at the fringe or whilst this production is touring!
So don’t miss it! Head to paines plough’s website to book now! https://painesplough.com/productions/
