Frozen West End Review | Robbie’s Backstage Bants

Updated: Jun 22, 2022

On my latest London trip, I was lucky enough to see a the matinee performance of Disney's Frozen at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

The show as a whole was one of the most magical things I have ever had the honour of witnessing. Everything about this show was special and that is down to everybody onstage and offstage who are bringing that story to life.

Elisa Lewis and Kaci Theobalds took on the the roles of Young Anna and Elsa respectively. Their energy as a duo really shone and they gripped the audience at the very beginning of the show.

Sarah O'Connor, standing in for Stephanie McKeon in the role of Anna was incredible. O'Connor's characterful performance left the audience laughing, cheering and smiling. Her vocals were beautiful and her energy unmatched, for sure a standout performance.

Samantha Barks as Elsa was out of this world. Samantha's powerful voice and character brought the house down with the closing of Act 1 number 'Let it Go' - Which was a personal favourite of mine. If you have the chance to see Samantha Barks in this role, take it whilst you can, you will not be disappointed.

The role of the villain Prince Hans played by Cameron Burt - standing in for Oliver Ormson, was another fabulous performance. Not only did his charm win over Anna but the rest of the audience too. Cameron has a strong voice with a lovely tone which sailed through his big numbers.

Obioma Ugoala plays a perfect Kristoff and his smooth tone really shone through as well as his warm character which was beautifully delivered.

Olaf was played by Jeremy Batt and his operation of the puppet as well as all round fantastic comedic timing made for another incredible performance.

The puppetry in this show is definitely another reason that it is a favourite of mine. Olaf was wonderful as he moved just the way he did in the movie. Sven, played/operated by Mikayla Jade was one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed onstage! Sven moved and looked like a real reindeer and I could not take my eyes off him.

The costume and scenic design by Christopher Oram were both stunning and beautiful. Every scene and every costume was so true to the original movie with extra sparkles and different outfits that perfectly brought the story to life.

If nothing else, this show is a must-see for the pure MAGIC throughout. It it one of the most mind-blowing shows for effects, sound and lighting

I would fully reccomend this show to anyone looking for an afternoon of fun and magic!
