Fiery, Fun and Thrilling - Bat Out of Hell UK Tour Review

I had the pleasure of seeing the Fiery, Fun and thrilling UK Touring production of 'Bat Out of Hell' at Newcastle Theatre Royal yesterday (28/7/22). The production itself was stunning! The atmosphere of the open set and pre-show / performers onstage aspect set the scene well for the performance ahead. Right from the opening chords, the music of Jim Steinmann & Meat Loaf ran through the Theatre Royal with gorgeous sound design by Gareth Owen.

Owen's sound design accompanied by some of the greatest lighting design I have ever personally witnessed by Patrick Woodroffe brought this amazing show to life on the Newcastle Theatre Royal stage.

Glenn Adamson was breathtaking in the role of 'Strat'. Adamson's characterisation paired with his incredible vocal talent made for a standout performance! His onstage romantic partner Raven was played beautifully by Martha Kirby who has a outstanding voice and gave another very impressive performance.

Rob Fowler as Falco and Amy Matthews covering the role of Sloane brought a unique energy to the stage whilst also carrying some very heavy emotional scenes. Other standout performances included Killian Thomas Lefevre who portrayed 'Tink' perfectly, and Joelle Moses whose voice brought the character of Zahara to the stage with some incredibly powerful vocals.

The cast was completed by James Chisholm, Kellie Gnauck, Danny Whelan, Laura Johnson, Rebecca Lafferty, Beth Woodcock, Jamie Jukes, James Lowrie, Samuel Pope, Luke Street and Leonardo Viera who created a very strong ensemble, beautifully executing the wonderful choreography by Xena Gusthart.

Another one of my favourite aspects of the show was the Live Video Projection which helped to focus on some of the more important scenes no matter where you were sat in the audience. The projection was also used as part of the set too which made the production look even more exciting!

Overall, this touring production of Bat Out Of Hell is a must-see and I would give it 5 STARS for the pure vocal talent and energy of the cast accompanied with stunning lighting, set, sound and choreography! 29th July 2022
