Cher-ing my thoughts | The Cher Show UK Tour Review

Updated: Jun 22, 2022

Last Night (30/422), I had the pleasure of seeing the new touring production of 'The Cher Show' at the Sunderland Empire. Despite the rowdy audience members, I had a fantastic time and the show itself is a masterpiece!

Going into the show as someone who shamefully only knew a few of Cher's songs I was unsure if the show would have a huge effect on me, however I was proved wrong very quickly.

From the very beginning one thing that really stood out to me was the beautiful lighting design by Ben Cracknell which was quite literally jaw-dropping. The lighting for this show is quite possibly one of the best I have ever seen. Cracknell is a master of his craft and his work really brought the show through a range of feelings as well as bringing that Cher dazzle!

Debbie Kurrup in the role of 'Star' embodying what I would describe as 'Current Cher' was stunning. Her vocals were on point, and she led some really emotional moments throughout.

Danielle Steers playing Cher some of the other emotional parts of her life in the role of 'Lady'. Danielle has such a strong and powerful singing voice which brought the house down and she brought lots of sass to the role.

Millie O'Connell in the role of 'Babe' played Cher in her younger days and throughout her 'Sonny and Cher' era. Millie brought innocence, comedy and energy to her character and served some outstanding vocals too.

The cast as a whole gave standout performances. The direction by Arlene Phillips brought a unique and exciting feel to the show. Oti Mabuse's outstanding choreography was fabulously executed by the cast and I was thoroughly engaged in the whole thing.

Costumes by Gabriella Slade were dazzling and stunning really capturing the essence of Cher in every single outfit worn onstage.

The set design was also eye-catching using set pieces to indicate the year of the scenes and take us to various locations very convincingly despite having no changing backdrop.

Overall, The Cher Show is PHENOMENAL! and I would recommend everybody to go and see it and learn more about Cher's story, told through her fabulous songs. The show has a huge finale medley full of your favourite Cher hits which you are encouraged to film and sing along with!

So catch 'The Cher Show' on their UK Tour at a venue near you!
