Carrie Hope Fletcher: an Open Book Review

Last Night I had the pleasure of attending Carrie Hope Fletcher: An Open Book at Newcastle’s O2 City Hall. Carrie is leading a solo tour around the UK, telling stories and reminiscing on memories from her life.

From Carrie’s extensive list of credits, it is clear that she is no stranger to leading a show, she is in fact one of the strongest leading ladies I have had the honour of seeing perform! However for the first time she brings her honest, kind-hearted and talented self to the stage, different from her previous roles. This gives fans a unique opportunity to see the authentic Carrie Hope Fletcher perform a number of her favourite songs and stories.

From the outset, this show was exciting. The concept allowed the audience to choose what they wished the show to contain from a list of stories that Carrie would then tell, accompanied by songs that fit beautifully with that story.

Carrie sang a number of songs.

Her rendition of “There are Worse Things I could Do” was vocally stunning and performed wonderfully through the tale ‘a Saucy Scoop’,

A Medley of ‘Stars’ and ‘On My Own’ from Les Miserables was both moving and beautiful! There was also a wonderful tribute to her brother Tom Fletcher in which she sang McFly’s “Bubble Wrap”.

‘I Say No’ from Heathers, was the Act 1 closer which totally blew the audience away. Carrie tells the story of the night that ‘I say No’ was brought into Heathers, and her vocal performance gave me chills, just as she no doubt did every single time she sang this song before this performance.

The audience participated in this, filling in JD’s line, which was a lovely moment for Carrie Hope Fletcher Fans, and Corn Nuts alike.

Act 2 only brought more hilarious tales and little anecdotes with songs such as ‘I’d Rather Be Me” from Mean Girls which Carrie performed fantastically, a gorgeous rendition of ‘Moments in the Woods’ and a show-stopping finale which rounded up the entire concert leaving Carrie with a very much deserved standing ovation.

Carrie Hope Fletcher was accompanied by a band of extremely talented musicians, who perfectly matched Carrie’s energy and talent.

The intricate lighting design, with coloured lamps set the mood and feel for the show, every element of this production really bands together to make it an outstanding performance.

Trinity - an Irish Singing Group were the Supporting Artists for this tour, and they were the perfect choice. Their vocal talent was out of this world and a rendition of ‘From Now On’ had us all clapping along.

Overall this tour is a must see and if you can get tickets then I would recommend that you do before it is too late!!

Thank you to Carrie, Trinity, the Crew and The Lambert Jackson Productions Team for an excellent night of entertainment!
